HEALTH INDUSTRY

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1966- (HIPAA) - is the most wide sweeping legislation concerning the standardization and treatment of Protected Health Information (PHI) ever. Regulations ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all PHI that a covered health entity creates, receives and maintains.

The “Privacy Rule” was added on April 14, 2003. It tightened rules regarding use and discloser of any information that would identify a person’s PHI.  The new rules mandated safeguards when disposing of PHI.

Having secured containers centrally located in your office, or individual consoles desk side, can be part of your written information security plan.

Document Destruction of WNY will make scheduled stops and destroy your material on-site or transport it off-site for destruction. All off-site records will be kept in a secure location and destroyed within 24 hours, guaranteed. You will then be presented with a certificate of destruction proving you safely, securely disposed your PMI.

BUSINESS/RETAIL

The Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), enacted November 12, 1999, is a comprehensive, federal law affecting traditional and non-traditional financial institutions. Every company that maintains consumer financial information must develop, implement, and maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the security, integrity, and confidentiality of consumer information.

Part of the GLBA is the “Safeguards Rule” which requires each financial institution to develop a written information security plan to protect consumer data. The plan must be appropriate to the company’s size and complexity, the nature and scope of its activities, and the sensitivity of the customer information it handles.

Let Document Destruction of WNY be part of your plan. Our service will provide your company with locked containers to store sensitive information which can be held until your scheduled pick-up.  Document Destruction of WNY will securely destroy your material and provide you with a certificate of destruction, proving your company is in compliance.
